In August 2016, the country singer launched his own marijuana brand called Willie’s Reserve.
At the time, he hosted two concerts in states that will sell his product; one concert in Washington state and the other in Colorado.
The brand represents Nelson’s ‘personal morals and convictions’ and it will be sold from storefronts that feel like ‘the anti-Walmart’, according to the brand’s spokesperson Michael Bowman.
The products are being sold in states that have legalized marijuana, like Colorado and Washington.
The 83-year-old wanted to build something that’s ‘reflective of his passion.’
‘Ultimately, it’s his. But it was developed by his family, and their focus on environmental and social issues, and in particular this crazy war on drugs, and trying to be a bright light amongst this trail as we’re trying to extract ourselves from the goo of prohibition,’ Bowman told The Daily Beast.
‘A certain standard by which growers have to account for carbon and such, in a way that empowers small growers who are doing the right thing.
‘It will be like when you walk into a Whole Foods store.’
According to the official site, Nelson wanted to give back to his pot-enthusiastic fans who would come to his shows with their own ‘bounty from their home gardens and local communities.’
Willie now ‘happily returned the favor.’
Always moving, the energetic singer recently completed a three-show gig in Texas for the New Year.
